Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

How to Record yahoo messenger

Post by pvthawkeye » Tue Jun 10, 2008 2:04 pm

Please help

I am running windows XP and I have read the directions on setting the following,
"In the Windows Mixer (record section), you need to select "Stereo Mix" as the recording source (may be called "Mix", or "What you Hear" or something similar). "
I do not have an option for any of these choices, My questions are:
Is the Windows Mixer part of the Audacity program or the operating system?
My sound controller in the task bar is Creative surround mixer, do I need to change that? If so, How?

In Audacity my mic choices are (mic or line in)

I am new at this so if anyone can help, I will be grateful.
Thank you

The Windows Mixer is part of the control panel in the operating system. Whether your Creative device has ability to record computer playback depends first on the device's capabilities. If it supports stereo mix or similar, then it depends whether you have the latest Creative drivers that let it offer stereo mix; and finally if stereo mix is enabled in the Windows Control Panel. See this page for help:

However capturing both parties properly in voice messages can still be problematical and subject to freezes; you are better to record with a specialised program like Voice Emotion:
http://www.voiceemotion.com

and then edit the recorded MP3 in Audacity (ignore the nonsense on their site about 48000 Hz MP3 being better than CD quality - it isn't but it's good enough for PC calls).
