Hi folks,
Maybe this is the right thread for this, maybe no. I'm running the Win7 Beta, on a Sony 64bit laptop that had been OEMed (if that's a verb) with Vista. I'm dubbing audio cassettes down. "Out of the shrinkwrap" so to speak, sound in the microphone port is detected by the system as stereo, comes in to Audacity, and records; Software playthrough lets me hear it in real time, but Monitor doesn't do anything.
(Stereo is indicated by differing behaviors on the VU l/r channels, slight differences in waveform displays on the L/R tracks.)
But... the problem is, the input signals come in pretty near clip level, even with the cassette deck volume turned way down. I can grab the Input level slider and slide it... nothing happens. The input VU meter just keeps on chugging along with periodic clips.
I also get a consistently lower signal on R than on L, and being able to find and adjust separately the gains on these would be nice.
Dragging the Speaker out level slider does adjust the volume out.
Checking on either Control Panel, or right-click on taskbar speaker icon, gets me the Microphone, which is marked as being stereo but has only a mono level slider on the Level tab. Level is set pretty low, and doesn't seem to be coupled to the level that Audacity is using.
My wife had been using a headset mic with this laptop, and this install of Audacity, to record short narrations, with no problem.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike
