Stops recording

Post by Emello » Thu Jun 05, 2008 1:21 am

Using XP home SP2 all updates except SP3, Soundblaster X-fi Xteme music, line in from tape deck.Core2D E6600, 3GB RAM. Audacity's timeline will just freeze while recording after some period of time. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and had the same problem happen. This doesn't happen in 1.26, but I really like 1.35. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link, though my issue isn't quite the same. I get no error message, and the stop time varies from 15 to 35 minutes. I can't find the VST option, where is it? I did try disabling the screen saver before recording, that attempt went well. I do run Folding at Home, Kaspersky antivirus, while recording, but I have over 100 GB free disk space, cpu utiliazation doesn't get much above 55%. and over 1.5GB RAM free. I'll search the forums for conflicts with XP's screen saver. Specs: Core2Duo e6600 @3.15Ghz, 3GB RAM, 2 Seagate HDD 250GB, Soundblaster Xtreme Music X-fi.

If you do not know about VST, it means you do not have it, and this is good.
(Some plugins loaded through it coudl cause problem after startup, not after 15 minutes.)

I read again, you say "Audacity's timeline will just freeze".
What does that mean?
(Depending on settings, audacity scrolls while recording or not. May be it is recording but just did not scroll.)
Do the level metters move?

"No message" Does that mean it is like you would stop the recording, audacity alive, etc. ?

Antivirus: yes this can cause problem. I think you have to switch it off and try.
Disk defragmentatin can help.
Make sure you do your recording to your hard drive (Save the (empty) project to the harddrive.)
Your HDD should not be compressed or use any cryptographic protectin.
And indeed, switch the screen saver off.

BTW, could it happen that you pressed spacebar or similar? That stops recording.

How many partitions do you have on your computer (Windows XP default is 1).
What is the location of the Audacity temporary files? (Look in "Edit > Preferences > Directories")
What are the other settings you have in "Edit > Preferences > Directories"?
