I have just updated to the beta version of Audacity. How can I unstall the previous 1.2.6 version from my computer?

If it's not damaged, I'd be tempted to delete both versions and install Audacity 1.3.12 (and the associated software) fresh. Audacity 1.2 put it's preferences in the Dreaded Windows Registry and it's a little involved to get it out if parts of it crash.

On the other hand, both versions completely co-exist so you don't have to do that.

That's an interesting question for the Windows elves. If you un-install Windows Audacity 1.2, does it normally clean the Registry? I guess it would if you used the software removal tool in the Control Panels.

No it doesn't clean the Registry, your !.2 preferences are carried forward to your 1.3 installation the first time you fire it up (it ignores the registry after that - unless you delete the audacity.cfg file, the Preferences file.

You can get instructions on gow to "carefully" clean the registry here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... references

Yes, but. Audacity developers went to great pains to make sure they followed the Windows rules under 1.2. That means if you delete Audacity 1.2 using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, the Registry is supposed to be cleaned. Windows keeps a list.

Neither the 1.2 or 1.3 uninstaller touch HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAudacity in the Registry which contains Audacity's 1.2 Preferences settings. The only registry setting either uninstaller cleans up is the association with .aup files.

Sometimes 1.3 can get confused with a hybrid audacity.cfg settings file that includes the old 1.2 settings from the Registry. It's often preferable to initialise the cfg file so that it starts with "factory fresh" 1.3 settings. To do that see Resetting Preferences to defaults in the Manual.
