Hello
I have read the instructions on the forum post about how to record using Audacity beta version with Windows 7
I have done exactly as you instruct on that post
I am new to Windows 7, I just but my laptop has all the requirements listed in that post
I do not know if is common but in the Audacity window, in the dropdown menu (to choose the input from) it does not show any alternative (like CD, Mic, Mixer, etc) but only option available is MASTER
What does that mean?
I can record using my mic anyway, though and I have specified in the Audacity preferences which devices I am using, so everything is normal
I want to try to find out why only the option available in my drop down menu (on Audacity beta) is MASTER, not even Microphone show up
Is this normal in Audacity beta 1.3 with Windows 7?
in my older PC with Windows XP and Audacity beta, the Mixer option or all the other possible options would show up in Audacity recording dropdown menu
In this Audacity (with Windows 7) there is no MIXER available in the dropdown menu, even though all my drivers are up to date, I have read the tutorial about how to choose the Mixer option from my Windows audio device and taken all the steps, my sound driver is up to date and the default default sound driver is called Coneaxant CX20671 SMART AUDIO HD
Any idea how I can resolve this issue in order to record live music online?
Thanx a lot

Re: W. 7 & AUDACITY BETA RECORDING input dropdown menu ques
Please read this WIki Mixer Toolbar article as far down as the section for Windows XP.
Yes Mixer Toolbar input selector always says "Master" or is greyed out on Vista and 7, so you always have to select devices in Audacity Preferences, after having enabled them in "Sound" in the Windows Control Panel so that Audacity is able to see them.

Re: W. 7 & AUDACITY BETA RECORDING input dropdown menu ques
Thank u so much for reply
I am still using the Beta version and windows 7
I have read all the tutorials in the link that you posted for me, and I have followed all instructions and taken all the steps advised
I have found the mixer and I have found the MULTISTREAM option too in my audio device manager and set it up to work
Unfortunately in Audacity the mixer option is missing, even if I have enabled the VIEW DEVICES TOOLBAR , in the device toolbar input device the MIXER option is still missing,
So I am thinking if the port V18 version might be last resource for me?
I cannot compile Audacity from Source code, I have read it and is way too difficult for me to do
SO how do I enable Audacity's Mixer Toolbar, installing from a package which has PortAudio v18? (as instructed in tutorials) I have not found this anywhere?
also in In the Help>About window the following is what I found:
PortAudio (Audio playback and recording) v19
wxWidgets 2.8.10 (Unicode)
Features Nyquist
(Plug-in support) Enabled
LADSPA (Plug-in support) Enabled
Vamp (Plug-in support) Enabled
Audio Units (Plug-in support) Disabled
PortMixer (Sound card mixer support) Enabled
SoundTouch (Pitch and Tempo Change support) Enabled
Can you tell me where I can go to download the version with port v18?

Re: W. 7 & AUDACITY BETA RECORDING input dropdown menu ques
PortAudio v18 is used by Audacity 1.2.6 but a different version of Audacity is not likely to help whatever your problem is.
When you look in the recording (right-hand) side of Device Toolbar, what choices do you see? Select the device that says "stereo mix", "wave out", "what u Hear" or similar (you can use either the "MME" or "Windows Direct Sound" choice for that input).
If you do not see the correct input in Device Toolbar, have you enabled the input you want in Sound in the Windows Control Panel? That is, in this image:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/w/images/c/c8/Vistarec.png
have you right-clicked and put a check in "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" and have you right-clicked over the device meant for recording computer playback > Enable? If that device is not enabled Audacity will not list it in Device Toolbar.
If you are not sure, capture screenshots of Device Toolbar and "Sound" showing the inputs and post them in your reply (use the "Upload attachment" tab underneath the "Preview/Post Message" buttons). You can capture a screenshot of the current window by holding ALT and pressing PrtScr.

Re: W. 7 & AUDACITY BETA RECORDING input dropdown menu ques
Hmmm I seem to be having a similar problem, I recently got a new dekstop... Windows 7 X64 and have the Audacity beta. I am currently trying to record audio that is currently playing, from what i understand certain mobos and sound cards do not have this function for whatever reason but my sound is onboard and I have Realtek HD audio I believe... I have been trying to figure this out for the life of me with no luck, I tried changing pretty much every option the my sound in the control panel has and all the options in Audacity's device tab but no matter what i still record nothing, just a flat line
any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Re: W. 7 & AUDACITY BETA RECORDING input dropdown menu ques
"Stereo Mix" on the Realtek sound card should be able to record all sounds that are playing through the Realtek sound card. However, you are using the ATI HDMI output as your playback device and that is a different device from the Realtek. The "Stereo Mix" on the Realtek sound card is not able to record sounds that are playing through other devices, only sounds that are playing through itself. To record "Stereo Mix" you will need to connect your headphones or speakers to the Realtek output socket and set the Playback device (the picture on the right) to "Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio".
