audacity recording problem
hi!
i have a problem with the audacity recording function...
in the preferences i have choosen device: creative audigy 2 zs "what you hear"
but when i start recording, sometimes there is a noise like this in the recording:
http://soundcloud.com/froze-t/quantenrauschen-sample
http://soundcloud.com/froze-t/another-sample
my operating system is windows 7 64-bit
i'm using audacity 1.3.12
soundcard: creative audigy 2 zs
my question: do newer creative cards solve the problem?
another question: do the newer creative cards (like x-fi titanium) also have the "what you hear" function
greetings
(sry for my bad english)
update 06-12-2010: installed new creative drivers

Re: audacity recording problem
Why have you selected "What U Hear"? What are you trying to record?
Many newer sound cards do not have "What U Hear" on Windows 7 (or Vista).

Re: audacity recording problem
Yes I have just bought a new PC with a new sound card. My old PC had a Sound Blaster creative audigy 2 zs as well and I used to have a 'What you hear' recording option. With my new PC this feature has now gone. Gutted. There is a peice of music I want to record off the internet, it has never been commercial available and I can't buy it. So this is the only way I can record it for my own private listen pleasure. I have now lots this feature I am gutted.

Re: audacity recording problem
Maybe for you. But for the business community who is the major user of Windows machines, it can be a problem. Multiple Recursive Pathways (Mix-Out) can make the machines unstable and interfere with voice communications. It's one of the reasons Macs have never been able to do this. There's no shortage of people posting that they have echoes and distortion in their guitar recordings. Many times, that's why.they don't????

Further, this is the community who would just as soon get paid for their music productions. For them, having that tool missing is win-win.

Re: audacity recording problem
WinAmp has a feature called "disk writer" (sorry I don't remember exactly where it is, but it's somewhere in "Options").
The idea is that you set WinAmp to output to the "disk writer" instead of the sound card. The disk writer then does what its name suggests and writes the audio directly to disk (as a WAV file). This method has an advantage over recording in that the sound does not get converted by the sound card from digital to analogue then back to digital again, but is written directly as digital data, giving you the best possible sound quality.
