Good evening.

I have some problems with recording. A month or so ago i suddenly couldnt record while having playback on. When i recorded another track, while hearing the 1st track, i got the "echo effect" in the start, but after a few seconds it goes very loud, and out of scale, nearly breaking my headphones. I can't seem to find a soloution, after looking through the wiki, help and that stuff. I have overdub on, and software playthrough OFF.

Are you on Vista or Windows 7? That has an equivalent of software playthrough called "Listen to this device". Also given the feedback echo is severe, that makes me think you are recording "what U hear" or "stereo mix" instead of the input you are actually recording from such as a microphone.

Assuming you are on Vista or 7, go to "Sound" in the Windows Control Panel, and click the "Recording" tab. Right-click over any input and check "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices". Then right-click over the input you actually recording from and check "Set as Default Device". Right-click over it again, choose "Properties", then click the "Listen" tab to ensure "Listen to this device" is off.

If the above isn't the problem, look in the Control Panel for the sound device or in the Windows Control Panel for sound effects or "enhancements" which could be causing this problem.

unfortunately i have windows XP. I've been looking through my recording software in the controlpanal, but I can't seem to find any problem there. Btw i have Reatlek HD sound.

I hope that maybe this can help some of the wise heads, to help me

EDIT: And i think you're right about my computer recording what im hearing on my computer, instead of what comes from my recording source.

That should be fixable in Sounds and Audio Devices or in the Realtek Control Panel, providing the Realtek drivers are working correctly. If you select the correct input the "echo" problem might even go away.

If this is a laptop, look also in Realtek Control Panel for an option to separate the input jacks or similar.

wondering if anyone could help me...
i think im having a similar problem,
when i go to record over another track using audacity while listening to the other track, the sound which my mic is picking up is relaying back to me with about a half second delay,
looking for a solution to this problem and btw i have windows seven

It's generally better to start a new topic for each new question - keeps thing from getting too confusing.

You need to turn off "Software Playthrough" at the bottom of the Transport menu.
If you are using a USB microphone this will mean that you will not hear the microphone through your headphones at all - this cannot be avoided, it is a limitation of USB microphones. Some of the more expensive USB microphones have a headphone socket built into the microphone so as to get round this problem, but cheaper USB microphones do not usually have that feature.

I am very new to this so beat me up to much Mr Admin.

I am using audacity with Microsft Life chat lx300 x 2

It works very well but I am getting a time delay.

I import audio track, then record voice, this enables the listener to hear my voice and the background, the only slight issue is some people with good hearing can hear me speaking (live) then in the headphones. I don't want to turn the volume up as this would make everything to loud.

Is there any way to cancell the delay? I have looked and don't think latency is the answer.
