Nectar VST Plug-in

I just downloaded the new iZotope Nectar plug-in and placed it in the Plug-in file as i do with all other VST plug-ins but it does not show up in the effects menu. And I did rescan. Help please. The plug-in is time sensitive (10 days) and I would like to try it ASAP.

Works for me on Windows 7 x64. See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/VST_Plug-ins#beta . Did you restart Audacity? Did you look underneath the divider in the Effect menu? The mono and stereo .dll's will be listed separately as "iZotope,Inc.".

In the iZotope installer I chose the Audacity Plug-Ins folder as the directory for both the VST plug-ins folder and the installation directory for iZotope itself, though that shouldn't (I assume) be necessary for a respected plug-in supplier like iZotope. For some badly behaved plug-ins it can be necessary to place all dll's including those for authorisation in the Audacity Plug-Ins folder.

I moved the VST plug-ins folder and the installation directory for iZotope to the Audacity Plug-ins folder as you suggested and it now shows up in the effects directory. Unfortunately, when I click to use it, it gives the option of "Authorize" (purchase) or "Continue" to try it out. Since I am not purchasing it I click on "Continue" and then Audacity crashes with the infamous "Audacity has encountered a problem and needs to close" window. I am using Windows XP 32-bit, by the way. I watched the YouTube demo on this plug-in and it looks fabulous. I wouldn't have a problem paying the $200 if I can get it to work. I have both Steinberg AI5 and Cakewalk but I find the ease of use of Audacity much better for 80% of all my needs. I really hope to get this resolved. I wrote Izotope and they responded fast but said that Nectar was never tested with Audacity but they would look into it. Do you think I should uninstall Audacity and re-install it? Thanks again.

I think it would be more likely to help if you reinstalled Nectar. I would assume the crash to be something to do with how you moved the Nectar contents around. Try setting the Audacity Installation folder as the VST Plug-Ins directory (as far as Nectar is concerned) so that you don't have to guess what Nectar wants to do.

Note that if you move the system VST plug-ins folder that Steinberg and Cakewalk are looking for, they may not be able see your VST plug-ins unless you tell them where the folder is.

I am having a lot of the same issues. At the risk of sounding completely out of it, how do I do this rescan I keep seeing people mentioning. I cannot get the Nectar plug in to show up in the effects menu. I followed all of the above steps and suggestions but still no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

To rescan for VST plug-ins, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Effects" and select the option to rescan VST effects on next boot. The next time you start Audacity it will rescan for VST effects.
