First Act Usb Guitar Cable Won't Record

I have a First Act USB Guitar cable bought at Target. I have read all the information I can find about this, but can not get this to record. I have changed the settings to the C Media USB device to record from and it will not. It just has a flat line when trying to record. I have messed with almost all the options I can I don't know where to turn ?
The computer recognizes and installs the drivers for the USB, and it shows up in Audacity, but I can't get any sound out of it...
Please help with any suggestions / ideas.

It will not change, or it will not record?
You should try different USB connections if you have more than one. Replug the guitar cable at the guitar several times.
Change Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Mono. Restart Audacity and try it. Still nothing? Try 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity and try it.

You never said the magic words that your guitar works fine into your amplifier. Does it?

My guitar works fine going into my amp, I have no problems there.
I was able to change the setting to C Media USB and I just get a blank line, no recording.
I have tried 2 different guitars, as well as using 4 different USB ports on the computer.
It recognizes it, but no sounds seems to be pushed to the computer.
Ive been working on this for probably like 4 hours today and can't figure it out.
thanks

Which version of Windows?
On Win XP I would expect it to be "plug and play", but on Vista and Win 7 you may need to configure the correct sample format (16 bit 44100 Hz CD Quality) and set the recording volume level in the Windows Control Panel.

I am using Windows XP. Just can't get this thing to work ? I don't know what else to try.
I did already change the settings to 44100, and 16bit, but still no luck.
I don't know ? ?

It's starting to sound like the First Act USB Guitar cable might be faulty.
As far as I can see you appear to be doing everything right.
I don't suppose that you know anyone else that has one of these?
Are you able to try it out on another computer?
Is it still under warranty?

I have plugged it into my other computer I have with the same results.
No sound seems to be coming thru. I don't have the package anymore and it was given to me as a gift so I don't know if I can even exchange it ?
Can't see why it wouldn't work ?!
I don't need an amp plugged in or anything do I ??

No. what we're all expecting is the cable to use the power coming from the computer USB connection to run a simple analog to digital converter. The guitar signal is plenty loud enough that it does need any further boosting. It then sends the digitized guitar back down the USB cable to the computer.
It's painfully simple.
You're going straight from the guitar cable into the computer, right? No hubs or USB splitters or anything like that?
It is electronics and they do occasionally fail. Unplug the cable from the computer and look down the connector with a strong light. Are all four gold pins still there and undamaged?
