24 Bit FLAC Export Broken with 1.3.5 Beta
Just downloaded the new 1.3.5 Beta for Windows, which I am running under Vista. 24 Bit FLAC Export seems to be broken. Works fine in 1.3.4, and 16 Bit works fine in 1.3.5. The FLAC stream is reported as invalid in both Trader's Little Helper, and Foobar, both of which I trust. Interestingly, I can re-import the 24 Bit FLAC file produced into Audacity, and that works OK. Something must be being written which appears invalid to other applications though.

Are you using the latest version of Foobar?
This sounds like a known compatibility issue between recent flac encoders (FLAC 1.2.1) and slightly older decoders. If this is the problem, then it should work ok with foobar 0.9.5.2

Re: 24 Bit FLAC Export Broken with 1.3.5 Beta
Many thanks for this Steve. You are correct. I'm a member of a community of 100,000 people who share FLAC files of live concert recording. Mostly these are 16bit, but there are a fair number of 24bit recordings. I'm going to have to stick with the previous version of Audacity, as it's simply not practical getting everyone to upgrade. Do you know if it would be possible for the Audacity developers to use any flag to force the FLAC encoder to encode backwards compatible files?
Re: 24 Bit FLAC Export Broken with 1.3.5 Beta
Unfortunately backward compatibility never lasts forever - try as I may, I just can not get my old VHS tapes to play in my DVD player. Similarly, Audacity 1.3.x can open Audacity 1.2.x projects, but Audacity 1.2.x can not open v.1.3 projects.
You should be OK with the new version of Audacity as long as you stick with 16 bit as it looks like the problem is only with 24 bit FLAC files.
It would be great if you could encourage 100,000 people to get with show and update - there's no better way of doing that than providing an incentive ("You want to share my latest excellent files? Get the new and improved Foobar 2000 - it's free").
