Latest information from my local "GURU". Windows 7 reroutes the audio in such a way that it comes out monoral. To date there is no solution to this problem.
That could perhaps be a slightly misleading synopsis.
Most users of Win 7 are able to record in 2 channel stereo.
That is not to say that your issue is not a Win 7 problem (though to me it sounds more likely to be a hardware/driver problem) but Windows 7 with fully supported hardware can record in stereo. For some unknown reason (which may be due to poor hardware support in Win 7, or may be due to faulty hardware), your system doesn't record stereo.
Do you know anyone that has a USB sound card?
Most USB sound cards will function correctly with generic Windows drivers (even on Win 7). It would be really nice to know if your system can record stereo with an external USB sound card, and if you could borrow a USB sound card ....
