making breaks during recording

Post by roy windmill » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:20 pm

Hi. I have Windows XP. I would like to make a C.D of some of my favourites tracks. Because these will com from various scources, e.g Tapes. L Ps and C.Ds. It would mean stopping the recording to change the scource, perhaps leaving it intil the next day. Is this possible? Thanks. R. Windmill

Audacity 1.3 has a feature called Append Recording Shift-R. That should let you pick up right where you left off.

However. the process is still prone to failure and crashes, so Save the Project under a new name each time to form a backup, and I would Export as WAV as well.

Say you're 60 minutes into a show and the computer crashes. There's a terrifically good chance that everything up to that point is trash -- unless you have a backup.

If you are in fact making a Music CD, don't bother to go over 78 minutes. That's the maximum amount of music per disk. Also remember that most Music CD authoring and burning programs will automatically put a two-second gap between each music file. Some programs allow you to change that number and, of course, if the whole disk is one file, then you will get one "song."
