Toolbars

Hi guys,

Newcomer to the forum and to Audacity, so apologies if I'm in the wrong area.

And.. possibly a simple answer for those in the know. But, having downloaded the latest verstion of Audacity for Windows 7, why have I only got one meter bar (instead of two for stereo) and subsequently appear to be recording (from a USB turnatable) in mono, albeit that all my settings have been set to two channel stereo?

I can't find anything in the FAQ's or the tutorial that answers or guides this particular problem,

Cheers in advance

WD.

1) You need to be set to stereo in Audacity "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices".

2) You also need to be set to stereo for the recording device that you are using in the Windows Control Panel http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel

3) You need to be sending a stereo signal to Audacity.

Number (1) is easy, number (2) is a bit more tricky, but if both of those are set correctly then it's most likely that the turntable is only outputting on one channel, in which case carefully check that the turntable cartridge is securely attached to the tone arm - you may need to (carefully) remove it and seat it back in place again.

Thanks Steve,

I thought I'd covered everything and the preferences 'devices' is definitely set to stereo.

The turntable and USB ancilliaries are all good, so I suspect you've nailed the problem with your second suggestion.

I'll give it a go when I get home today,

Many thanks,
