This is not a normal problem, so there is probably something that these computers have in common that is causing the problem.Brigster18 wrote:It also happens on more than one computer, both differant makes.
What sort of computers are they?
What sort of speakers?
Do you have a microphone or headset connected?
Do you have "Software Playthrough" selected? (bottom of the "Transport" menu - if you do, switch it off).
Can you give a step-by-step method for us to recreate this problem?

64 of the computers are desktops made by Stone computers. 2 others are made by Dell.
Step by Step.
1) Log into the win 7 computer
2) Plug in the headphone
3) Open audacity 1.3.12
4) Generate a Tone
5) Play that tone
6) Stop the tone
-- This is when i get the feedback.
'Do you have "Software Playthrough" selected? (bottom of the "Transport" menu - if you do, switch it off).' This wasnt enabled when i looked, even if it is the sound still plays.

Sorry, I've no idea why that is happening - keep checking back, I'll ask a colleague if they have any ideas.

Re: Annoying Sound when playing from Audacity on Win 7
Is it a USB headset with a mic attached, or just a pair of headphones that you are plugging into line-out?
Does the problem occur if you plug-in speakers instead, or use any inbuilt speakers the computers have?
Win 7 computers often have sound playback "enhancements" turned on.
Have you tried turning those off? Go to Sound in the Windows Control Panel. Click the "Playback" tab, then right-click over "Speakers" for the motherboard sound device (assuming you are plugging into line-out) and hit Properties. Click the "Enhancements" tab, put a check in "Disable all enhancements" then click OK and OK.
