Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Error while opening sound device.

Post by northboard » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:59 pm

I just downloaded Audacity and the two plug-ins. I can drag a song from iTunes to Audacity and that seems to work. When I go to play the song I get an error message. If I play with settings under devices and then play the Audacity that will cause it to stop responding and have to be shut down.

The message when I press play is Error
Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device and the project sample rate.

Please help as I have gotten more interested in this player as I have read about it. Sounds good if I can get it to work. Thank you.

Audacity needs to have access to a recording and a playback device, but Vista has a habit of hiding/disabling recording devices so you probably need to go into the Windows Control Panel and ensure that both a Playback device and a Recording device are enabled, then restart Audacity.
See here for some information about the Windows Control Panel: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
