<<<When I try to open a recorded file>>>
Actually, you're trying to open up an Audacity Project, right, an AUP file?
Well this is messy. The AUP file is a text file and you can open it up in NotePad and read it. This is a simple one.

When you open yours, count down seven lines and look for a character that isn't supposed to be there. We sometimes tell people to open up the AUP file and copy-paste the first bunch of lines to us here. We'd be much more likely to spot the renegade character.
