Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I'm sorry I didn't realize I was in the wrong section. Is 1.3 still Beta? Is it stable? I appreciate all the help and patience you
have given me. Thanks.

Yes 1.3 is still beta
Yes 1.3 is stable (on most machines) - the main exceptions are on Macs if they use 24 bit audio, and on Ubuntu 8.04.

As neither of these apply to you you should find it rock solid apart from possibly one known bug (converting from stereo to mono - if you need to do this, check the forum as there is an easy workaround).

Most of us now use 1.3.4 as there are many enhancements to it compared to 1.2.6

What's the difference between "Ctrl K", "Del" and "Back-space"?

Well, in the example you gave Steve with that music track and the label track both selected - using the Delete key somewhat oddly does not delete but instead creates a new label for the length of the selection (Audacity 1.3.3) - whereas CTRL-K and Edit>Delete actually do the job - file in the "strange but true" section ;)
