Re: Recording meter stopped/frozen
Did you run out of hard drive space? Audacity will not work into a full or badly fragmented hard drive.
Defrag
-- Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties (Used, Remaining)
-- Tools > Error Checking & Defragmentation
A production hard drive should never be over about 80% or so full. The computer may start acting funny about the 90% point.

Re: Recording meter stopped/frozen
Hardware memory problems can cause that, too, but that's much more serious. Hope for the hard drive.

Loosing a USB connection can cause that.
A crashed Flash browser plug-in can cause that.
Bad sound card drivers can cause that.
Can't really narrow it down without a lot more information.

Re: Recording meter stopped/frozen
What sort of tape deck?
How is it connected to the computer?
Is this a laptop or Desktop computer?
Which version of Windows?
"the recording will go so far and it will stop and the cursor will just flash" - How far is "so far"?
We can only work with what you tell us, so too much information is better than not enough

What is this "usb to 3.5 headphone jack"?putridmocha wrote: connected to the pc using usb to 3.5 headphone jack
I suspect that the USB connection has been lost. You could try connecting the USB to a different USB socket on the computer. Avoid using a USB hub - it must be connected directly to the computer.
Is this a Desktop computer? If so, try the USB connectors on the back.
You could also try using a "stereo 3.5 jack to 3.5 jack" if your computer has a "Line In" connector.

Re: Recording meter stopped/frozen
i tried using a different program and it worked fine so i guess that eliminates my equipment or hardware.
I would change programs but none comes close for user friendly interface

Which is? Stop using dark gray terms like that. You can't give us too much information. "I was able to use 32-bit Able-Audio® on my Dell Dimension Desktop machine with dual hard drives running Win7."
We can't see over your shoulder and we're not all Windows Mavens.
