hi guys i downloaded 1.3.x yesterday and i used the stealth plug to record which worked but now when i tried all i get is minimal sound which appears to be coming from my inbuilt mic for the laptop it is very quite and clean thats how i know. Can anyone help me to get the sound to come back through the stealth plug and not the mic, i have turned the mic off and then i get no audio..... i use windows vista unfortunately.. i'm new please help

OK, That's a new one. "Stealth Plug? That may be part of the problem. If the connection isn't normal, Windows may not know its there and reassign the sound to somewhere else.

I will steal this topic as I have the same problem and I might have more info.

Basically when I connect guitar to the Line In of Realtek audio, there definitely is sound. I am able to use PC guitar tuners without any problems. However Audacity doesn't record and when I choose to only monitor it's the same. What I hear is... well hard to explain, interval noise, 250+ beats per minute. Like it would register something from inside the computer only, even if I play guitar on top if it. However that is completely impossible because as I said, the guitar tuner was very precise and I am talking about tenths of a hertz, so Line In must be ok. I tried with output of a youtube video from another computer. The pattern was the same, however instead of only noise "beat", it now registered part of one word, a spoken word from the video. So it went on like "Si,si,si,si,si", 250 times per minute.

Are you getting your microphone, clearly and low level instead of the expected show? So you have a completely different problem from the original poster.

You need to go into the Windows Control Panels and make sure it's set to record from that device you posted about instead of the built-in microphone.

You have feedback. Go into WIndows Control Panels and make sure you're recording from Line-In and not Mix-Out, Stereo Mix, or one of the internet recording settings. Then go into Audacity Preferences and turn off all the "Playthrough" options and "Play tracks while recording new ones." Restart Audacity and even though you can't actually hear what's happening, make a simple recording. The Red Recording meters should bounce in time to the music.

Play that track and it should be clear of the noise.
