audacity doesn't open properly

Hi all. I'd been using Audacity 1.3 Beta on Vista for a couple of months with no hitches. Then recently the program stopped opening properly. When I click on the icon, a bar opens at the bottom of the screen, indicating that the program is running. But no window opens. When I click on the icon again, I am told that Audacity is already open. Right-clicking on the bar at the bottom does no good-- doing so should usually prompt me to restore, maximize or close, but now nothing happens. I've tried re-installing the program to no avail. Any insight?

I vaguely remember a similar posting a while back. IIRC the poster of that thread was advised to delete the Audacity configuration file and then restart Audacity. This will create a new config file - and note carefully that this means you will lose any Preferences settings that you previously made.

You can find the config file in: c:Documents and settings<your_user_name>Application DataAudacityaudacity.cfg - at least that's where it is in Windows XP - don't know about Vista.

This is why re-installing Audacity doesn't help - the config file just stays there between re-installations.

Note that in 1.3 a separate config file is created per Audacity user - in 1.2 the config data is stored in the windows registry.
