MP3 Exporting and loss of metatag information

Post by rlsmith46 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 12:57 pm

I heavily tag mp3 clips with iTunes and MP3Tag. After tagging the files I may modify the files using audacity and then export them as MP3.

Sometime I let the export overwrite the original file name. At other times I rename the exported files.

Whether of not I overwrite the orignal file name or rename the file, almost all the tags are deleted with the exception of the few metags you can create and edit in Audacity. Those tags are already populated when I open the original MP3 file.

This behavior is somewhat different that in v 1.2. There if I overwrote the original file, more of the original file's tags were kept, but not all. If I renamed the file in 1.2, the loss of tags is the same as in 1.3

Is there anyway I can keep the tags from the original file intact without having to reenter them again?

Is there any information I can get on which tags get kept when I overwrite the original file?

If the answer to the above is no, I think if would be a great function to add to Audacity to preserve all the metatags from an imported MP3 file and keep them when the file is exported as an MP3.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance!
