Hello,

Wav files play OK through Windows Media Player but if I import them into Audacity I get no sound during playback.

The output level Meter is bouncing up & down so it looks like something should be coming out of the speakers...

Any ideas?? Please advise..

You are probably either outputting from Audacity to the wrong audio output, or, if on Vista/Win 7, you have it muted.

For a more detailed reply you will need to say which version of Audacity, which version of Windows, and what sort of sound card(s) you have (also if you have any USB audio devices attached).

Most likely you have exported your WAV file with the -.......+ gain
slider in the Track Control Panel knocked over to left. If you do this, then you will cancel the volume of the exported track. You can verify if this is the problem if you use Project > Import Audio to import the exported WAV back into the Audacity. If this is what has occurred, you need to reopen the .aup Project File with File > Open and assuming the waveform in the .aup has full peaks and troughs, all you need to do is reset the gain slider to a central position and re-export your WAV.

If this is not the problem, then you have muted the output of Media Player, or you have it set in its options to use a playback device into which you no longer have speakers connected. If you have not changed Media Player's settings then you probably need to go to Sounds and Audio Devices in the Windows Control Panel, click on the Audio tab, and set the the playback device to the one you have your speakers connected into.
