Assign aud files to beta version?

Hi again,

Now I'm getting the hang of what can and can't be done with my old tapes, the beta version of Audacity is being used pretty well exclusively. However, because both the beta and previous version are called audacity.exe, aud files made with the beta version are still invoking the old version when clicked, and then one gets a message that they can't be opened.

I have tried putting in the entire path into the open with dialogue, but it still opens the old version. I have tried copying the beta exe file into the old audacity folder, but that just causes a can't find appropriate dll message.

Do I have to uninstall both versions and then reinstall just the beta and the lame file for exporting mp3s all over again, or am I missing something more obvious? If I just uninstall the earlier version, will I lose any shared dlls etc?

Cheers,

S

I'm not using Windows myself, but is this perhaps the issue?

That was quick Steve :o

I had not tried the renaming that way round, so cheers for the tip.

Interestingly when I rename it audacitybeta.exe and then browse to it with the opens with dialogue, instead of this I get 'audacity: the new cross platform sound editor' - or words to that effect, but the files now seem to know what it means!

Many thanks,

S
