Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
So, I have been exporting my files under "Export Multiple"
I export them as wav files. How do I open these up in Audacity again so I can manipulate them again? Or, If this cannot happen how do I export so that I can open? DO I need to just export as wav in addition to doing the "export multiple"?
Thanks

Re: Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
Once you have exported them as individual WAV files per track the easiest way to edit further is just one track at a time - you can just open up the WAV file in Audacity - BUT be careful: depending on how your Audacity preferences Audacity will either use the WAV file where its is (default behaviour) or make it's own copy (personally I prefer this safer setting).
You can reconstruct the whole project by opening each WAV file in Audacity - but it can be very fiddly - so if you think you may later want to edit the whole project then yes do export the whole project as a single WAV - but note that this will double your file/disk occupancy.

Re: Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
Also, I am can't get my z button to work in Audacity. I can get an uppercase Z to work but not a lowercase z. Do you suggest that I redownload Audacity?

Re: Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
1) Open the WAV file for the first track in Audacity.squibkick wrote:Hwo do I open each individual file with Audacity?
2) Then Import>Audio for the second track WAV file
3) Audacity will create this as a second track starting at time=0 - so now select Track 2, select the Time Shift tool (the icon is a short horizontal line with arrows at both ends)
4) Use the Time Shift Tool to move track 2 to the end of track 1 - Audacity will help with the alignment by showing a yellow vertical line when alignment is ok
5) Repeat steps 2-4 for the remaining tracks.
You can either work with the multi tracks as they are and Audacity will sort it out on export by mixing & rendering down to a single stereo pair - or you can select all tracks and then use Tracks> Mix&Render
Alternatively you can open track 1, open track2, select track 2 and cut it out (CTRL-X shortcut), Go to the Track 1 Audacity. Move cursor to end, Paste in track 2 (CTRL>V shortcut). And repeat.
I told you it was fiddly ....
Edit>Preferences>File Formats - the top pair of radio buttons enables you to select safer or faster mode - select the safer one (Make a copy ......)squibkick wrote: And How do I get it to open in the safer of the two modes.

I presume you mean you can't get lowercase z to wotk in labels, right?squibkick wrote:Also, I am can't get my z button to work in Audacity. I can get an uppercase Z to work but not a lowercase z. Do you suggest that I redownload Audacity?
This is a known "feature" of Audacity - it's because the lc z is a shortcut - you can either edit the shortcut table - or what I do is jus use an uppercase Z and then edit the filename and or MP3 tag later.

Re: Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
Thanks man. I will try the directions you suggest. I just don't get how to open a wav file in Audacity in the first place. I go to file and then open but don't think it works. I will try this when I get home from work and let you know if it works.
As for the z button. I did what you suggested as well.
Thanks

Thanks. that worked. Is step 2) in your directions if I would like to open more than one file at a time?
Re: Exporting and retriving files for further audacity use
Click on "File" menu and select "Import" then select "Audio".
Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut " Shift + Ctrl + i "
