I've seen the problem in the windows forums, but never a solution so pardon me for asking, but I thought you would probably know more than they do. Is there a way to get a USB Audio device (a Midi->USB cable) to show up as a recording device? All the lights are flashing on the Midi side, the device driver says everything is working as planned, but the device doesn't show up to the OS in order for Audacity (or any other sound recording program) to recognize it. Or do I have to break out my old XP box?

That won't do it, either. MIDI is digital serial machine control for musical instruments. "Press This Key Now." It's instructions. It's not sound.

To capture the sound, you need actual sound cables between the MIDI instrument and the computer. In my case, I have an adapter cable from my MIDI keyboard Headphone Out to my computer. If you're on a Windows laptop, that can get interesting. Many of them do not have stereo input connections.
