Long story short windows cut off a file transfer to a thumb drive i had to recover the lost part of the data (the .aup) using a software recovery tool.

so i have the .aup and all the .au files but when i open the freshly recovered .aup file it gives me a great ole' message of
"audacity did not recognize the type of this file"
which is odd because it is a .aup so i clicked the help button it gave me it said wma-proprietary and i have no clue what this means

i just spent the last 9 hours making and trying to recover this song i made please help.
if possible i will upload the .aup if needed

I also recovered a .bak backup of the .aup
so i changed it to a .aup and tried opening it and it says there to a invaild token on line 76 or one of those thingys
so in all i have
.au's
.aup (original)
.aup (.bak backup)

<<<which is odd because it is a .aup>>>

...as far as you know.

If you forced Windows to show you file extensions instead of hiding them, you may find that the file is really MyMusic.aup.wma. Windows would hide the ".wma" part leading you to think you have an ordinary aup.

<<<wma-proprietary >>>

Any time Windows can't identify a music file, it naturally thinks it's a Windows Media file suitable for playing in Windows Media Player. Windows tags the file and it's a WMA file from that point forward, in spite of the fact that an AUP file isn't a sound file.

You can open up your aup file in Notepad and read it. It's a text file. It will look something like this...

Down around line 76, there is a damaged word or letter. That's where I get fuzzy.

Ok so i opened the file in an editor and all i see is
‰·y®7n;øÑ„œ»a°£éŽn“¦É²‰Àd¶ˆç¢ËÑ•Ô%Ì¡ÂÿCðj,/Tm‰ð>˳oŠÐáÂ+¨aøø ðòN?ꮤ;㮜B)±|§Cô_ýü•.Œ“D‘ûþÊÀÄՃˆê–Xuu‘ñåúØÃ}«0ÛĪ.êj‚*¯7”/åøæNH<¿¿úÝ_í>гWÇù‰u¦E+G!j½.é8ŽÎb¬ñR~ÙMô¼a&>ZSЁ½DÜõÙʚ焚2}ºs޾ÑZ_sÎõn¿}ÎÉÌRÅùE‡ùEù‰Çƒóú‘ ²nT$”]攵ïH¯"«P¦µ&éTÉ?Ùã¢Î»³}Oߧ_â{>¸¿êÿèå 20¢´Þ.ˆO0‡´v˜ï×¾81eLv¬:IýÜuTÆoj̳ö8!Ýeh¢q}g€Åqìx^ÜÅc%V-™±7Øñ¯?Cªä¶©¥‡®nPৠP„3öm©ÖNÏwš

i really want a way to uncorrupt this data if possible... it was a one in a million recording.
and is it possible to listen to all several hundred .au files and piece those together?
