My laptop's onboard SC no longer records without distorting in Audacity 1.3 anymore but after some greatly appreciated help from stevethefiddle, I was able to record again through my UCA-202 but for some reason it's only recording in MONO(Left Chan Only) & the recordings are a lot quieter(almost dulled) than with my onboard. Pls does anybody know how to get both channels to record?
As I record through my headphones I've got those plugged in to my UCA-202(monitor switched to Off), then I've connected a Phono/RCA lead to the inputs & then back to the outputs(loopback).
The Audacity pref's are as follows:- Host: MME
Playback Dev: Spkrs(USB Audio Codec)
Rec Device: MIC(USB Audio Codec)
Channels: MONO = Only Option Available
Every thing else in Audacity is untouched & at it's Default setting(presumably?).
In Win.Sound Settings >
(Right Click Vol. Icon) > Playback > Both the Realtek HD A Spkrs + Digi Output are Disabled(not that they seem to matter) & USB Audio Codec Spkrs are Enabled.
________ " ________ > Recording > Realtek MIC is Disabled & Both Stereo Mix + USB Audio Codec MIC are Enabled.
If it's possible to tell from what I've outlined, is there a setting that I need to change either in Audacity or my PC(Vista 32Bit) at all pls? Thanks in advance for any help/guidance anyone can offer.

Re: UCA-202 is only recording in MONO
In Vista there may be an extra "properties" setting in the Control Panel that sets the USB Audio Codec to mono or stereo (often defaults to mono).Nick Dee wrote:In Win.Sound Settings >

Since you are recording through the USB it's probably also a good idea to try disabling the "Stereo Mix" option as that is probably the on-board sound card which I gather you were having problems with.

Re: UCA-202 is only recording in MONO
Hi Steve,
I've been trying to find an extra "properties" setting in the Control Panel that sets the USB Audio Codec to mono but can't seem to locate it anywhere. In Manage Audio Devices/Sound I've looked in every Tab[Playback, Record, even the Sounds Tab]+ each Properties tab & I've also clicked on Change settings in USB Audio Codec Properties but I can't find any additional setting to change from Mono to Stereo. I tried looking in the Control Panel Home[also in Classic View]to see if there was another way to locate a setting to switch from Mono to Stereo but unless I missed it, there doesn't seem to be one, not in Hardware & Sound, Device Manager, Sound or Realtek HD Audio Manager? The Device Status claims that it's working properly & the Drivers are up to date, so just to be sure, I tested the UCA & both channels are working, the lead is new & all connections seem to be fine, so unless I've been looking in the wrong places, I'm at a loss, any idea's at all...please? : (
Many Thanks For your Time.
P.s. Oh yeah, I've Disabled Stereo Mix, not sure why it was enabled but thanks.

These are the steps for configuring Windows Vista for recording from a Behringer UCA 202.
The steps for other USB sound cards on both Vista and Windows 7 are likely to be similar.
I would recommend following this list carefully step-by-step, including the "optional" steps.
