Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

So are you fixed now, having read all the links? If you are/were recording ambient sound then you are recording from a mic or internal mic, not from any stereo mix input that there may (or may not) be. To record from a "stereo mix" input it will have to first be enabled in "Sound" in Windows or in the sound device control panel, then it can be selected as "Recording Device" in the Audacity Preferences.

Hi,

Ok, little confused now - Should the stereo mix input be available in any computer?

I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64 and I can't find it from the Sound dialog (control panel). I enabled "show disabled devices" too, but all I see is the mic of the laptop.
From Audacity's preferences I found 2 devices, the mic and Microsoft Sound Mapper, but both seem to take the input from the mic.

Thanks!

No. "Stereo Mix" is not available on Mac computers, and it is becoming increasingly rare on Windows computers. Back in the days of Windows XP it was pretty common on Windows, but it has been steadily phased out. It seems that soon the only platform that will still support "Stereo Mix" is Linux.

The link posted earlier suggests some workarounds for people that have machines that do not support Stereo Mix. Here's the link again: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
