Labelling tracks

Hello,I am a new member and I am having trouble using the splitting and labelling tracks.
I have a track which I divided into 11 sections using the labelling system. This was all trouble free. I then used "Export multiple" and saved the result. I followed all the instructions given in the "creating labels" section.
The problem is the saved result does not have 11 separate tracks, only a continuous single one.
Can you tell what I am doing wrong?
I am using the Beta 1.3 version.

Without being able to see over your shoulder that's a bit tricky

There's some instructions here :
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Split ... ate_tracks
(I don't know if you were referring to these or the instructions in the manual).
At what point does it seem to be going wrong?

Thanks for your interest. I used the instructions that you have highlighted.
It's going wrong in not recording the seperate tracks that I inserted and marked using the labels.
As I understand it when you follow the labelling process and then do the "Export Multiple" step, the resulting file should be your original track, but now divided into however many seperate tracks that you labelled? This would be like a commercial CD that you could step from track to track.
Have I understood the process correctly?

Can you post a screenshot of your project just before you do the Export Multiple step?
What are your settings in the Export Multiple dialog. Are they same as this example:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... t_Multiple ; that is are you doing "Split files based on labels" and "Name files using Label/Track name"?

Not quite. When you "Export Multiple" you should get multiple
files - one file for each label.
If you then burn these tracks to an audio CD you will get one CD track for each file.
You're not being thrown off by the term "track" are you?
On a CD or cassette the term "track" means "song", but that is not the same as an Audacity track.
If you press the record button in Audacity, it will record onto a "track" (either in mono or stereo).
If you stop the recording, then press Record again, Audacity will create a new "track" below the first "track".
If you select the option in Export Multiple > Split files based on "tracks", then it means Audacity tracks, not songs.
The option you need to use is Split files based on "Labels".

I don't know how to include a screenshot. I've used the Print screen and saved it to Paint and clicked the Img button, does that work?
Yes, Bill, my settings were the are the same as in the example.
What should I see in the export location, you say I should have multple files. I have just one icon named track1, I had labelled them track 1, track 2 and so on.
Yes, I know I'm really misusing the name, track, in the context of Audacity. I started with one long track & broke it down into 11 sections, Songs if you like, but in my case speech.
Whatever I'm doing is simply producing exactly the same as I put in, ie one continuous track?

Yes, but you haven't addressed Steve's suggestion:
<<<If you select the option in Export Multiple > Split files based on "tracks", then it means Audacity tracks, not songs.
The option you need to use is Split files based on "Labels".>>>
Are you sure that in your Export Multiple dialog box that the Split files based on "Labels" option is selected - i.e.the radio button next to that selection is "on" - shows as a black dot.

You're on Windows, so I don't know how you'd edit the "screen print" image down to the relevant piece (which would be audio track and the label track in Audacity). Someone else will have to help you with that. You don't want to upload the entire screen print image as that would likely be too large.
Once have your image ready, click the "Upload attachment" tab below the message composition window. Click the "Browse..." button, find the file on your computer and select it. The "Filename:" box should now be filled in with the full path name to your file. Click the "Add the file" button. The file will be uploaded to the forum and a new section will appear below the message composition window called "POSTED ATTACHMENTS". Your file will be listed there. Click the "Place inline" button and your file will be place inside your message at the current cursor position, like this:

Re: Screen shots
It sounds like you know how to capture the image on your screen, and you've done the same thing I do: Paste it into Paint.
Once you've done that, you can Save it as is -- saving it as a JPEG -- or crop it to get rid of everything other than the part you want to post.
To crop out the extraneous stuff:
* Use the cropping buttons that are the small dots on the left side (center) and bottom (center)
* Grab one of them (let's say you start on the right side) and drag it INward, stopping just before you get to the stuff you want to keep -- which will crop out everything you don't want or need
* Then grab the other (on the bottom) and drag it UP, again stopping just before you get to the bottom of the image you want to keep
Then SAVE the file, and then send it using the Upload Attachment directions below (there are two tabs -- one labelled Options, and the other Upload Attachment).
