Time indication
Is there some way to position the cursor at a specific time point by entering that time into a window/field?
I know you can move or position it yourself, but I'm looking for a way to more accurately position it than that -- and if it could be done by specifying the exact position you want it to be, that'd be ideal.
Thanks-
Carey

Re: Time indication
Try the Selection Toolbar: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... on_Toolbar
If you can't see the Selection Toolbar, click on View > Toolbars > Selection Toolbar.

Re: Time indication
Thanks! I was excited, for a moment -- when I went to the page you sent the link to -- but when I tried to find that toolbar under View, I was unable to.
I don't know if it matters, but I'm using version 1.2.6 of Audacity.
The only toolbars listed under View in my version are: Control; Edit; Mixer; and Meter.
Thanks-

Re: Time indication
Suggest you upgrade to 1.3.12. It may be "beta", but it is so much "better" than 1.2.6.Carey wrote:Thanks! I was excited, for a moment -- when I went to the page you sent the link to -- but when I tried to find that toolbar under View, I was unable to.

You can have 1.2.6 and 1.3.x on your machine at the same time, but you cannot run both at the same time.

Re: Time indication
Thanks.
Do you mean that the newer version has the capability I asked about but my current version doesn't?

Re: Time indication
The old 1.2.6 has quite a lot of features missing compared with Audacity 1.3.12, including the feature that you are asking about.
I would also highly recommend upgrading.

Re: Time indication
Thanks!
I actually have 1.3, downloaded last DEC. I don't remember why I'm not using it. It could be something as simple as that I forgot to put a shortcut on my desktop -- and the next time I went to use Audacity, I forgot about the newer version and opened the old one using the shortcut to it that was (and is) on my desktop!
But I've now closed the old one, and opened 1.3 -- and I'm working on the file (a concert recording made Sunday night) I'd been ready to work on before posting my question.
Thanks again!
Since the new version takes care of my question, but I can already see a couple of questions the newer version is causing, I'll post a new subject to ask those questions -- if I can't find the answer myself.

Re: Time indication
In Audacity 1.3, look in "Help > About Audacity".
If it's an earlier version that 1.3.12 you should update it as there have been some important bug fixes in 1.3.12
To update, just download the installer from here http://audacityteam.org/download/features-1.3-a
and install over the top of your current version.

Re: Time indication
Thanks. It's 1.3.10, so I'll update it as you suggest.
The version I have and wasn't using also has something I've wished for: A counter (clock) that actually indicates where the cursor that moves while the song is playing is, timewise.
Right off the bat, I've found -- thanks to the forum -- two features I've wished for. I wish I could remember why I'd downloaded 1.3.10 but hadn't been using it. It may have been, as I said earlier, that I just forgot about it -- or, as I think was the case, there may have been a problem when I tried to use it, and I just went back to the older version that had served me well.

Re: Time indication
Audacity 1.3.10 has a bug that affects "Export Multiple", so if you use that feature then that is a good reason for not using it. (The bug was promptly fixed in the next release). If not that, then perhaps you just forgot about it
