Can't Record out of the soundcard

ok, i noticed this problem with audacity 1.2 as well:
on my old computer i used to be able to record out of the soundcard, for example i could play a youtube video and record at the same time.
however with my new computer (running windows 7) no matter what preferences i choose, my computer always wants to record from the crappy built in microphone.
help plz?

ah, thanks again man, i do have one of those crappy logitek cards, @*&!* windows seven man

ok, i still can't record off the sound card, i've tried switching through all the inputs in audacity, but no matter which one i choose, it always wants to record from the crappy builtin microphone instead of from the card

You've been to the Windows Control Panel?
You've enabled "show disconnected/disabled devices"?
What recording devices are shown in the control panel?

yes i have, the only recording device which shows up is the microphone. which is scaring me, does that mean i can't record from the sound card?

You can, you just can't do it with the Windows tools.
