Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I would like to join a few midi files into one, and save it as mp3. Can this be done in audacity?

Audacity doesn't manage MIDI. If you export the MIDI project as WAV or other sound files, then we're here for you.

MIDI isn't a sound format. It's a music instrument control format. You can't directly listen to it.

Much better WAV, AIFF or other uncompressed format. MP3, AAC, and the compressed formats always create sound damage and you can't stop it. MP3 is a final delivery or listen to your iPod format, not a production format used to create other or different music.
