Recording through line in without recording desktop sound

Hi, im having a problem with audacity where i record my guitar through the line in input at the back of my computer. I turn on the setting where as you record it plays the tracks that have already been recorded at that time. I am able to record a new track but audacity also records the other tracks playing in the background(desktop) while i was recording, so i get echos, buzzing and unpleasant sounds while a murmur of what i actually recorded plays quietly. any help??

You need to set your sound card to record from "Line In" and not from "Stereo Mix".
