high piercing background noise with Realtek

Post by tigger959 » Sun Sep 05, 2010 1:33 pm

Purchased a new laptop with 64-bit windows 7 installed. Uses the Realtek Audio and have everything set to default. When trying to record, I get a high piercing background noise. Can anyone please tell me what to do.

No, I'm not. Do not have anything plugged into the laptop except the power supply. Otherwise, all is default. Thanks!

Hi, I'm a new user of Audacity, trying to download cassette tapes with a DIGITECH cassette player with USB cable. I also get an increasing high pitched sound, which only disappears when I click the "Monitor Input" button, turning this OFF. The recording is way too weak, even with everything turned up. What is wrong ? Help, anyone please ! I have drawers full of cassettes I want to record to MP3 via computer (ACER 5573ZWXMI). The software with the purchased 'system' is a mini disc which just has "DRIVER" on it. No idea which version this is - I'm not very computer-literate ! Help, anyone. Wisco
