I have a new laptop a Toshiba Satellite L455 with Windows 7
and I can't get Audacity to work, what I'm doing wrong?

For Win 7 you need to use Audacity 1.3.12
You can get it from here:

Also note that there are some issues that specifically concern the use of Audacity on Win 7:

To install Audacity (as with other programs) you should run the installer as an Administrator.
