Thanks, Steve. Your post (and that link) proved to be very helpful, and I appear to have solved the problem by implementing some of the suggested space-saving tips (plus rendering a few more tracks and generally "cleaning up" a bit).
Now I can use the program again, and it seems to be working fine.
This makes me think that the reason for the whole "unhandled exception" business was because I had too much information going on. Now I realize there is a limit to this.
