The tutorial shows: Click Effect > Noise Reduction
But, the beta has Noise Removal. Are they one and the same?

I think it should say "Noise Removal".
If it's an on-line tutorial could you post a link and I'll check it out.

I haven't looked at the tutorial---it may not have been rewritten from an earlier version.
I'd guess they are the same.
"Noise Reduction" is not among the effect choices in 1.3.12. Probably just a rename.
You get the noise profile from a near silent portion of the song by grabbing it with the mouse. Then you go back and select the entire song. Then you apply the effect.
If that describes what you are seeing in the tutorial, then it looks like 2 names for the same thing.

And this titorial from the 1.3/2.0 manual also refers to it as
noise removal - see:

This is the link that shows when I am using Firefox to view the tutorial.

Richard,
it looks like you are referencing a copy of the manual which is located on your PC (hence the C: drive in the "link").
I presume you are accessing it from the help, right? IIRC you can set your Audacity either to get online/web-based "Help" or to access "Help" on your PC (the latter option is normally for folk who need to work offline). If so then it will be "frozen" from the time you downloaded te help library - and will not be being updated.
You are much better off using the online manual as that is updated fairly regularly - see:

Yes, that is correct. I will certainly use the on-line help in the future.
Thanks,
