Dragging the cursor?

Okay, maybe I'm being dumb. It appears to me that you can't drag the cursor (lilttle green triangle) to where you want on your track - you have to click on the point you want Audacity to play from. This seems like a pretty simple function to me, but I can't get it to do it. Works you can start at a point and drag for highlighting a portion of the track. So what am I missing here?

Audacity doesn't allow dragging the playback position as in a media player, but there are plenty of alternatives. See Navigation Tips.

As Gale implies the little green triangle is actually not a cursor it is the crrent playback position (in record mode the little triangle becomes red to indicate the current record position).

The cursor is actually independent of the green/red triangle and can be deployed during playback and recording. I'm not sure exactly what your trying to achieve - so some options.

1) you can "select" (highlight) a portion of the track by clicking and dragging in the waveform area

2) you can identify a single point by clicking at that point in the waveform

3) you can shift the playback position, while the audio is playing, by clicking in the time-bar ruler above the track
