How do I record just audio from my lap top and not anything external like my talking, typing, background noise, etc?

Thanks

That's getting more and more difficult to do with Windows computers. Crank through this wiki collection. It can be different on different machines.

Record what?

A bird chirping on your window sill?

A bird chirping in a video that you are viewing on a web site?

A bird chirping on an old audio cassette tape you haven't listened to in 10 years?

More details needed.

The mixer devices are no longer available in win7. But you can record audio output from a software interface named WASAPI , and here is the sample:

so, i think audacity may soon provide a way to recored from software interface but not hardware drivers.

This wasn't a problem with the 1.2.x version of Audacity. But since I've upgraded from XP to Win7, I've been left with no choice but to use the 1.3.x version.

That being said, I've been faced with the same problem as all the Win7 or perhaps Vista users; there's no "Stereo Mix" option in 1.3.x Beta.

I've searched the forums, stumbled upon many other similar threads like this but disappointing enough, without a clear solution to the problem. So I decided to fiddle around with the settings and finally got the Stereo Mix option up and running

I've written it on the Audacity wiki, so imma just quote it here:
To enable the "Stereo Mix" ("Wave Out Mix", "Record What You Hear") option in Windows 7/Vista
  • 1. Go to Control Panel, under "View by" option, select Large icons. (Default's usually view by "Category")
    2. (Double) click on Sound.
    3. Under the "Recording" tab, right click on the background and check on the "Show Disabled Devices" option.
    4. Look for the "Stereo Mix" ("Wave Out Mix", "Record What You Hear") option, right click on it and select Enable.
Now open your Audacity 1.3 Beta, Edit > Preferences > Devices, under the Recording heading, you should see a "Stereo Mix" option under the Recording Device drop-down list. You will then be able to record audio straight from your computer.
Hope it helps yea :geek:
