audio track appearance

In my prior use of Audacity (v. 1.2.6, i think) under Vista Home Premium, the audio track itself used to appear in BLUE with the Gray background - juts like you see in the Audacity Tutorial screenshots - attached. I moved to Windows 7, and now the Audio trackappears in light blue and the background in dark blue - see screenshot attached. I have tried both versions of Audacity - the 1.2.6 and the new BETA 1.3.12 BETA - and they both act excatly the same way. What do I need to do to chnage the display to how it appears in the Audacity Totoria? That is much easier to work with. Thank you for yur help.

I'm glad you posted the screenshot.
That is not a dark blue background, it is a grey/light blue background with a huge massively overloaded dark blue waveform.
You need to reduce your recording level - a lot.

I replied at the same time as Steve, so I'll add that you need to turn the input slider down (by the mic symbol) and/or turn the source you are recording down. The light blue is the average level and is almost filling the screen, so the peak dark blue level above that is hugely above the clipping level. That is why you see clipping (red hold light showing) on the meters as per your image.
