I've just obtained a USB turntable and played wuth the Beta, and so far Audacity is a breeze to use and I've got the hang of ripping and splitting. however there is one problem that it making me go nuts, and I cannot find anyone reporting a similar issue. For EVERY track I rip, there is (every 20-35seconds or so, a 'jump' in the audio, where is sounds as though anything from 0.5second to 1 second has been removed. There's no silence, and the audio stream looks continuous on the graphic display, simply that there is a shortening, which is very noticeable when a regular 'beat' is interrupted.

Assuming the problem might be due to processor issues, I shut down all additional processes to leave just a basic set up and Audacity running but it still happens, irrespective of whether it is an LP, EP or 45. When listening to the pass through, there appears to be no problem, only when playing back the resulting WAV. I've not progressed to creating on converting to MP3s as this problem in creating a flawed archive of the disc in really grinding my gears!

Has anyone come across this issue, is it processor related? As I'm using a pretty fast Dual Core Intel processor and a modern machine with plenty of memory, I'm convinced it isn't a resources issue, but as an Audacity newbie, I'm clutching at straws!

"drop-outs" can be caused by a data bottleneck anywhere in the system, so yes it can be processor related, but could also be due to a slow or excessively fragmented hard drive, a slow USB connection, other processes using the hard drive at the same time, or "other factors".
