Japanese in 1.3.12-beta?

Post by drbgaijin » Sat Aug 14, 2010 1:59 pm

I installed the beta 1.3.12 yesterday.
My wife (Japanese) also wants to try Audacity, but there was no choice of Japanese in the language installation drop-down.
Did we miss something?
Is a Japanese user interface for 1.3.12 due soon?
Installing on Win XP (Japanese)

Douglas

The availability of languages is dependent on whether there are volunteers available to create the translation files. As far as I'm aware there are currently no Japanese translators, though if you or your wife think that you may be able to help with this, see here: http://audacityteam.org/community/translation
If you are able to translate, but are unsure about the technicalities of creating the translation files, I'm sure that the other translators will be happy to offer assistance.

Thanks Steve.
Actually I found I had misundersteed the setup screen, when it came to "Choose Setup Language"
Here was no Japanese.
I thought that if there was no Japanese the install would not be able to display the Japanese interface.
In fact after installing - in English.
I found that under the Language settings inside of Audacity there was a choice to change to a Japanese interface!
I had missed that , as it said"Nihongo" meaning Japanese. This is not the usual way to write this.
Normally I would have expected, either "Japanese" or "日本語"
Anyway, now everything is fine.

Douglas
