Audacity 1.3.x (Beta=], Win XP: Audacity functioned quite satisfactorily for weeks, but suddenly (after I closed a project) the program failed to open from the shortcut. The problem has persisted. Although 'Audacity' appears on the taskbar, in fact with each attempt to open it another 'Audacity' appears there, the familiar work screen doesn't appear. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the program (from disk) without success.
What happened to suddenly change its previously impeccable behaviour?

I suggest you right-click over the Audacity Taskbar icon > Maximize.

If that does not help, exit Audacity (use the Taskbar right-click or Windows Task Manager to force quit if needs be). Then initialise the audacity.cfg settings file using Notepad or similar and restart Audacity.

If you are not already using it, the current 1.3.12 Beta should be able to relaunch properly without being minimised. You can check your current version at Help > About Audacity.

Maximising did the trick! But as you suggested I installed v 1.3.12 and that launches willingly. Many thanks - brilliant!
