Crash Recovery Confusion

Post by rovertnnud63 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 11:14 pm

I recently had a project of mine crash in which I was not able to save at all. I am using Audacity 1.3.0-beta. I found all the temporary files for my recording. My recording is about an hour long so there is around 600 small .au files in the temporary folder. What confuses me is that none of them seemed to be named in the right order. For example, when all the files are sorted by name, when two consecutive files are played (like "e0000a00.au" and "e0000a0c.au" are consecutive files), they are two different 6 second recordings from two different sections of my hour long recording. How on earth do I figure out which files should play after one another?

You don't. There is no good way to get from a pile of AU files to a finished show without the AUP file. It's the AUP supervisory file that fails to get written during a crash. That's the only file that knows where everything is.

You got off light. Most people post about having thousands of AU files that they need to piece back together.

Disaster Recovery is high on the list of features for the new Audacity.

You did crank through the wiki page, right?
