Sorry if this has been answered in the past but I couldn't find the info anywhere.
There is plenty of info on how to break a larger track (such as a music CD) into smaller tracks (such as the individual songs on the CD) using labels and Export Multiple.
If I have an audiobook in a single large mp3 file, my cheap mp3 player in my car will only start play at the beginning of a file. If I don't complete listening to the entire audiobook by the time I reach my destination, or I want to re-listen to just a part of the book, I have to start at the beginning of the file again - not very convenient.
Unlike the situation with songs of various lengths within each album, breaking an audio book into smaller files of equal time length (e.g. 5-minute files) would be as good as about any other way to do it. So far, I have been manually setting the start time for each segment and leaving the length at 5:00 - and labeling each segment at the time. So, if I have a six-hour audiobook, that's a lot of clicking and typing just to make the start point of the next segment five minutes later than the last one. It occurs to me that something that repetitious should be easy to automate. Is there some way to tell audacity to "just break this huge file down into five minute chunks, and specify a naming convention for the exported files, and let it do the rest?
Thanks.
How 2 automate segmentation into equal-length parts?

Thank you, Koz!
You just saved me a lot of boring effort.
I knew the programmers must have thought of this.

Eventually. I don't think this tool exists in the earlier versions of Audacity.
