Have to re-install each time

Having purchased an 'EZCAP' device to record vinyl / tapes, I found that it would not run with the software provided on Windows 7. I downloaded Audacity 1.3.12 and it worked fine. When I closed the programme and then opened it again, all looked OK until I recorded. The sound is wierd - clicks / squeaks / screeches etc., with gaps in between. Uninstalling and re-installing makes it run again - but shutdown means a repeat re-install to make it work. I'm running on a new Dell laptop with i3 processor. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Uninstalling / reinstalling Audacity (or EZCAP) is unlikely to help. Plugging EZCAP into a spare USB port rather than a USB hub might give you sufficient bandwidth to cure the noise and dropouts.

Do you need EZCAP? I assume you are connecting it to the RCA outputs of a phono amplifier. With a suitable (and inexpensive) RCA > 1/8 inch TRS cable, you can connect the phono amplifier direct to line-in of the computer and record from line-in.
