I was able to divide the songs or tracks & send them to the iTunes Library but the iPod Nano (latest version) won't sync them in. The other day when I sent a whole compilation of songs over to the library, it went on the iPod but I didn't want to be committed to listening to a whole 90 minutes of the compilation so I deleted that file, opting to export individual cuts to the iTunes library.
I had no trouble exporting the WAV file to the library then converting the file to ACC. Then I have been trying to transfer the new "cuts" to the iPod but they won't go. I can't figure out how a whole 90 minutes of compilation went onto it but when I export the individual songs, no such luck.
Is it a problem with a procedure that I did; maybe because a deleted the compilation? Is it because I kept the WAV files on the library too? I put a check box next to the ACC version & unchecked the WAV version. I'm stumped; your advice is greatly appreciated.

It's AAC. Advanced Audio Coding. Who made the AACs? I pull my music into iTunes as Audacity WAV files and then make iTunes create the Apple AAC versions if needed.
WAV files are huge. Did you fill up your Nano?

No I didn't fill it up; I have 4 GB remaining.
I did exactly as you say in your post: I imported as a WAV file then let the Apple application convert it to ACC; unchecking the WAV file box; checking the ACC box. Then proceeded to sync the Nano but I don't find the music on it afterward. The thing is, in the previous form I imported as a whole compilation, it ALL went on the iPod; presumably as an ACC file. I didn't want the whole compilation as one unit so I deleted it & replaced it with the "cuts"/songs that I preferred.

I get it now. That's the step I don't do. I've never synched either of my iPods. The older one isn't big enough and the newer one just doesn't get used for music listening. When I did transfer music, I dragged it from playlists to the iPod mount in iTunes. That does work for you, right? It's the auto sync that fails?

Open one of your original WAV files in QuickTime Player and Command-I INFO. Is the music 32-bit floating, 44100, Stereo?
Download this short sound clip and try using that.

That's a video standard, six second sound clip and I'd be fascinated if it worked.

I have windows XP; I opened a WAV file into Quick Time & it played. I don't know how to get to the "properties" of what the foundation of the song is, other than it's a WAV file. I will try down loading the sound bite link posted & see what happens; posting in another window.

It did work. It opened on the next page (had to back button to get back to the forum), I right clicked the player & the information in Quick Time was given. It was using a Quick Time plug in but utilizing the web to host the player. In the opened player, I had that WAV file you said to open in it. It also played but maybe you can tell by the specifications I posted, why it won't work?

I was looking through the folders in the iPod album(s) & found those songs that I pulled over to the library then transferring to the iPod. It turns out, the iTunes library transfers them to the same album that I have a compilation of CDs in. I had a "jukebox" of some 50 CDs & I transferred most of them to iTunes. I guess the application has to be either have its settings changed or the open panel is reserved for iTunes purchased material? There must be a setting that allows the transferred material to share the panel without being stuffed into an album or a folder?
I'll mess around with the iTunes settings & hopefully something will jump out at me. thanks for helping out & jarring my investigative instincts.
