Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Crash during MP3 export

Post by pinballwizard96 » Thu Aug 05, 2010 11:41 pm

Note: I did find another thread on this (http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9450), and tried most/all suggested fixes in addition to ones mentioned below with no success.

I've been using Audacity 1.2.6 w/ LAME 3.98.2 to record LP records and export the songs as MP3s with no problems until today. In the middle of the export process, the program crashed. I ran several exports to make sure it was consistent, then tried exporting an existing WAV file as MP3 (it crashed). Other file types export normally, so what is happening between LAME and Audacity that my ability to export as MP3 suddenly bugged up? I reinstalled both Audacity and LAME with same results. I also tried installing the latest 1.3 beta of Audacity - it also crashed during the export process.

I made sure the sample rates and project rates were the same (44100). I am exporting the songs as 320kpbs stereo MP3 files.

I'm running Win 7, and none of my rig's components should be putting a damper on the export speed.

I'd feel better had you said you installed the lame closely associated with your new installation of Audacity 1.3. They're not all the same.

Every MP3 export of each of your songs crashes now, right? It's not only one? Just checking.

How about a wav file that you didn't make like this short one...

Still crashes? By crashing, you mean Audacity vanishes from the screen, right?

Having just repeated the process now, I installed Audacity 1.3 and LAME (the one linked on the audacity sourceforge page).

Oddly enough, the WAV file you suggested went through fine...I tried other songs and, at first, got nothing. I rebooted and did a thorough, several-hour cleanup, then tried again. Most songs did not crash the program. I noticed that only the ones that were over 8-10 minutes or so consistently crashed Audacity (why?). Songs below that mostly got through. Figures - I was recording some longer songs earlier. Hopefully it will stay this way, if not improve.

By crashing, I mean I received the message "Audacity 1.3 has stopped working". As for the screen, Windows 7 faded the program window to white (as it does with non-responsive applications).

Thanks for the reply.

EDIT: Now crashing again, even with short files (under a minute). Maybe I'll just export as WAV and convert elsewhere.

I too use Windows 7 and dyring the process of transeffering files to MP3 my sytem crashs too. But luckily Windows 7 does automatically bring it back. But would like to know what's causing it.

HAve to say when the bugs are iron out it will be 8-) BRILLIANT!!!
