Using WinXP SP3 with Audacity 1.3.12Beta and have recorded an LP. It seems that anytime I add a label manually (via Tracks | Add Label at Selection) I can no longer Edit Labels (via Tracks | Edit Labels). I then noticed that all the Save Project variations on the File menu are grayed out. However, when I force an exit of the application, it mercifully asked if I want to save my work, which I did (and that worked just fine). When I brought it back up, my added label was there, the File save features aren't grayed out, and the Tracks | Edit Labels works again.
Adding labels via Analysis is fine as I can edit labels and save the project.
So I've tried this several times with the same results. Haven't found a way to add a label manually without exiting the application to save it or to be able to edit labels again. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? Any and all ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

Try a fresh project (restart Audacity). Restart the computer, too.
Use this sound file, not one of yours. It's really short.

Add labels that only have filename safe characters. Upper and lower case letters, numbers, dash and underscore. If that works, slowly work your way back to what you were doing and see where it fails.

Koz,
Thanks a heap! A little background: So I originally installed Audacity 1.3 (after installing 1.2 and deinstalling 1.2), but had not rebooted since the installation. Upon your recommendation, did at least reboot and now I can't recreate the problem with my own file. I'll report back if it reappears. Silly me.
Thanks again!
