i accidently deleted the shortcuts to my projects

can i open an audacity project that has only the data files?

Audacity needs the .aup project file that was created at the same time as the _data folder. If you have that, the project will open even if a shortcut to the .aup file does not exist.

If you lack the .aup file, then if it's feasible you can File > Import > Audio, navigate to the _data folder, select all the .au files and click Open. The .au files will be in separate tracks so you will need to cut and paste them together. If it isn't feasible to do that, you can use Audacity Crash Recovery Utility to join the .au files together into a WAV file. However assuming Audacity 1.3 created the project, you will need to sort the .au files by date, then rename them into a continuous alphanumerical sequence before passing them to the recovery utility. See Crash Recovery for instructions.

Also, the shortcuts may be in the recycle bin. Unless you have your computer set to empty it when you shut down?
